Artificial Intelligence (AI) describes a wide-ranging set of technologies that simulate human intelligence in computers and machines, to perform actions and apply reasoning in a similar way to the human mind. AI applications are quite broad and include other familiar terms such as machine learning and deep learning, a set of algorithms that enables machine to learn from their own experience without explicit programming activities. These types of technologies have been applied to a wide variety of field: one example is computer vision, meaning those studies that intend to recreate human visual process in computers and machines.
Imagine a house that knows when you're getting home by detecting your smartphone and automatically open your garage door, turn on your lights, change the thermostat, and even turn on your smart speaker to your favorite station. Artificial Intelligence technologies, with the integration of IoT (Internet of Things) services, can make it possible: by embedding intelligence into sensors distributed in the building, Smart Homes can be created, controlling every smart device of the house from one single platform.
Any manager of a manufacturing company knows that activities related to quality assurance and defect detection require a lot of time and effort. Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, together with Computer Vision systems, can help to automatize these tasks: these technologies may process images of already manufactured products to identify defects and, over time, learn more about different types of flaws and ultimately conduct predictive analyses.
The term Extended Reality (XR) includes all those technologies that offer an immersive experience: Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality. These technologies enable us to experiment new situations, where 3D environment solutions expand or substitute the actual world with virtual content. Whether the real world is completely replaced by computer-generated objects (Virtual Reality), simply expanded with virtual content (Augmented Reality) or a mix of the two (Mixed Reality), all these types of experiences alter the reality as we know it and allow us to be immersed in a new one.
With Extended Reality, we can develop training solutions for mission-critical tasks and advanced operational skills: it may be possible to virtually perform complex maintenance works on things such airplanes, like a wheel change or aircraft towing at its hangar, while identifying potential safety hazard.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a branch of knowledge that deploys software or hardware to perform basic and repetitive tasks. Usually, the application of RPA systems aims at automatizing routine operations that were previously carried on by human operators, such as data entry activities or message sending. RPA tools are quite simple and do not require complex programming activities to be installed, thus representing one of the most appreciated technology applications by many organizations.
RPA bots or scripts can be used to move data between different systems: it may be possible, for example, to automatically process customer communications involving new orders, and inserting structured resulting data in the company’s ERP or order management system.
Leveraging on RPA solutions, combined with Machine Learning technology, it is possible to automatically prepare and distribute periodic report on the company’s activity. All the effort to analyze the company’s situation and communicate it to the right people may be drastically reduced: RPA tools can auto-generate reports, analyze their contents and email them to relevant stakeholders.
Blockchain is a shared database where information are stored as encrypted blocks of data that are chronologically chained together. This type of network enables to keep a decentralized and secure digital data ledger, to track processes such as business transactions. One important aspect of Blockchain is that it offers immediate information in a decentralized way to all the actors that have access to it, making data transparent and secure.
Leveraging on this technology, it is possible to program smart contracts into the blockchain, to enable specific events to trigger actions: this would allow, for example, to release payment of an order only when goods are received.
One important blockchain deployment is related to the possibility to trace objects or materials during their production process, for example tracing food across a supply to more easily identify the origin of contamination or tracking assets to their origin or individual parts to assist in product recalls.
The technologies we are working on do not stop here. Read more do discover what other tools and solutions our MTV Tech Labs has been focusing on in the last years:
Building and implementing Real-Time Chats of any complexity, including creating Event Emitters and Broadcasters that will push messages across the Websocket open connection
We make developing web apps easier. We help you incorporate the latest technology with the goal of creating an app that performs like a desktop app
Create one app and deploy it across a whole variety of devices and platforms. This ensures that the user experience is consistent across all supported devices, including desktop computers, mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches.
